Triton Minerals has engaged a project team tasked with fast-tracking design towards building a commercial production facility for the Ancuabe Graphite project in the South-eastern African nation of Mozambique.

CPC Project Design will assist with planning a commercial pilot plant capable of producing commercially viable quantities of concentrate ahead of the longer-term goal of building a facility with a 60,000 kilotonne per annum capacity.

Additionally, a senior and experienced consultant will manage engineering, procurement, and construction management, focusing on engaging with contractors who have had experience in graphite and developments in Mozambique and Africa.

The company said the product from the pilot facility would validate the process for potential funding partners and build on solid interest already expressed from potential offtake partners.

“We are greatly encouraged by the level of offtake interest we are receiving, driven no doubt in part by the rising basket price for graphite,” executive director Andrew Frazer said.

He added the pilot plant is the first step in unlocking shareholder value from the entire graphite project.

“In the definitive feasibility study, Triton established the project as a globally significant graphite development project with strong returns (US$298m, IRR 37%), targeting production of 60ktpa of high purity large flake graphite concentrate over a long mine life (27 years), with short payback period (3.7 years).”
