Hydrogen Future Industries have secured a suite of 14 international patents, covering a wide range of works applicable to its proprietary wind-based hydrogen production systems.

The patents offer a significant augmentation to its IP as the company prepares to test its one-metre prototype later this quarter — aimed at delivering constant electricity at a much lower cost than current wind turbines.

The end goal is the global game changer of producing hydrogen at under two dollars a kilogram for a most abundant future.

A telescopic tower to optimise wind farm energy production while reducing maintenance costs is just one example of the range of patents, attached to the works of Timothy Blake before he joined HFI as chief executive of its wholly owned product development subsidiary.

As well as applying them to its own systems, the company said it will explore options for wider commercial use to bring in early cash flow.

“Given the considerable efficiency gains we believe our turbine will offer compared to existing open rotor wind turbines in use today, the commercial applications for our patents may not be limited to hydrogen and could be of value in the wider wind energy generation sector,” executive director David Ormerod said.

Tests will begin in the US state of Montana this quarter before beginning construction of the first commercial-scale units.

The company’s AQUIS Stock Exchange-listed share price is currently trading at 4.25 British pence (2:51 PM UTC+ 8 hours).
