Kavango confirm IOCG at Ditau

While all eyes are on the Kalahari Copper Belt’s maiden campaign, Kavango Resources have made a surprising discovery at the Ditau project, with petrological analysis confirming an Iron Oxide Copper Gold system beneath the Botswanan project.

Kavango believes this to be first IOCG system ever discovered in Botswana.

The system was uncovered through testing of 15 samples from hole DITDD004 and provides an exciting new exploration lead for the company, as IOCG systems are rarely isolated and can be widespread.

Testing also uncovered that Ditau may hold rare earth elements as well, with minor amounts of REE carbonate bastnaesite being present — indicating possible rare earth intrusions.

The company said it had not considered IOCG at Ditau, but it offered an exciting new avenue for exploration all the same.

“Ditau sits towards the western edge of the Kaapvaal Craton and is within an established kimberlite/carbonatite corridor. These are supportive indicators of a potentially favourable environment for IOCG mineralisation,” chief executive Ben Turney said.

Kavango’s main focus for Ditau remains the 12 ‘ring structure’ geophysical anomalies discovered previously, but the explorer will now prepare an updated exploration plan to include this compelling new system.

“Before we send a rig back to Ditau, we need to conduct more CSAMT and gravity surveys over all 12 targets. Results from these surveys should enhance our updated exploration plan and increase our confidence in future drill targeting.”

KAV’s London Stock Exchange-listed share price was trading at 1.85 British Pence today (2.31 pm UTC+ 8 hours).
